Creativity consists in
providing tools to achieve dreams, instead of just dreaming.
Robert Dilts
Do you promote creativity in your lessons?
Frequently, we do not reflect enough on this issue and, certainly, it could
trigger fantastic ideas.
IMAGINEERING combines IMAGINE and ENGINEERING.
Although it is said that the term was firstly coined some years before, it
is not surprising that Walt Disney was a pioneer in this field by developing
their company in 1952. As it is defined in the official webpage, "imagineers bring art and science together to turn fantasy
into reality and dreams into magic".
His method gathers three different stages concerning the creativity
process:
1. The dreamer: what
do we want?
2. The realistic: how can we achieve
it?
3. The critic: could it really be
made?

According to Dilts, the dreamer role is the weak point in our current
society. Thus, we, as teachers, should foster the creativity in our students by
taking into account some significant considerations.
- Ø Stimulating curiosity through positive emotions and self-esteem.
- Ø Enabling students to ask questions and analyse everything in depth.
- Ø Considering the multiple intelligences. All of us have our strengths and weaknesses. We can support one another.
- Ø Promoting divergent thinking considering the strengths of each one. Teachers should compensate those students who are able to think and solve problems in a different way, rather than consider a unique way.
- Ø Errors are just the proof that you are trying. Practice makes perfect.
- Ø Creating appropriate environments to encourage this process, considering that creativity is part of the learning and teaching process.
